The Safetywise Systems Story The products and services of Safetywise Systems were borne out of a need identified by three senior safety, health, environment and risk practitioners, Gerry Gibb, Jo De Landre and Gerard Harber. After working in-house with major industrials for many years and witnessing an explosion in safety, health and environment legislation and regulatory requirements, the trio recognised a need for a simple application to identify, manage and track the ever-growing and changing compliance obligations of a company. It is tough for companies to keep up to date with compliance. Companies do strive to be compliant, but given the scope of legislation which governs their operations, they often find it difficult to maintain a full understanding of their obligations and they do not have effective systems to track and manage the issues. The team also believes that compliance is frequently managed in an ad-hoc way with reporting deadlines missed, obligations unfulfilled, corporate knowledge lost when key employees leave, relationships with regulators strained and the company at risk of financial penalties or operating sanctions. When it comes to incident reporting and investigation, many companies lack systems that provide the ability for real time reporting, and do not have a consistent and proven investigation methodology, nor does their system provide mechanisms to track corrective action to completion. In response to these obstacles, the team set about developing user-friendly online systems based on their belief that paper-based systems and simple databases understood by one or two employees in a company are no longer adequate tools in managing a company's compliance obligations and legislative risks. The discipline of safety, health and the environment has become more complex and sophisticated and plays an ever-growing role in supporting the reputation, credibility and performance of a company.
